Introducing Our 2025 Ambassadors

At Ruffwear, we believe dogs make us whole and that our bond with them is shaped by the adventures we share. Our Ambassadors live this belief every day. The 2025 team includes elite athletes, explorers, everyday adventurers, and mental well-being advocates who embody the many ways people connect with their dogs outdoors. Their canine counterparts range from working dogs, like avalanche rescue pros, to dogs with physical challenges who continue to get after it day in and day out.

Now spanning six countries, this global crew shares stories that inspire others to get outside and explore with their sidekick. As they put Ruffwear gear through the rigors of training, work, and play, their feedback helps us design products that perform when it matters most.

We’re excited to introduce our 2025 Ruffwear Ambassadors.

🇺🇸 Kate, Waffle & Tug

Kate Speer is a writer, TEDx speaker, mental health advocate, and strategist at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. She’s also the proud teammate of two service dogs, Doctor Waffle and Tugboat. By day, she leads public health campaigns focused on expanding access to mental healthcare and challenging the stigma around serious mental illness. By night, she writes The Healing Lab, a bestselling Substack newsletter exploring recovery, self-acceptance, and the healing power of dogs.

Over a decade ago, Kate survived a suicide attempt and years of intermittent psychosis. She was told her future would be confined to a residential psychiatric facility, but instead, she met Waffle and together they rebuilt her life and proved doctors wrong. Now, Kate shares her story openly, shining a light on life with serious mental illness and the transformative power of self-acceptance, adventure, and the bond between humans and dogs.

🇺🇸 Kate, Ty & Zorra

Kate and Ty are entrepreneurs with roots in outdoor recreation and environmental conservation. Their pup, Zorra, started out as a young stray, just 9 months old and already a mother. When Kate and Ty adopted her, they hoped she’d enjoy tagging along on their outdoor pursuits. Now, she’s the ultimate adventure dog and they can’t imagine heading out without her. Zorra rides on their whitewater cataraft, flies in their airplane (Ty is a pilot), and even helps out around their off-grid cabin. She’s a forager, trail companion, and constant source of joy.

For Kate and Ty, watching Zorra’s transformation from a stray to a fearless explorer has been a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we act — with compassion for animals, responsibility for wild spaces, and urgency for a planet facing climate change and habitat loss.

As for her two sidekicks, Quinci is an 11-year-old Chihuahua-Terrier mix known affectionately as “the raptor” for her fierce, protective streak, while Sonora is a 3-year-old bundle of energy who lives to zoom, chase bees, and kiss every stranger she meets. At 11-and-a-half years old, she continues to thrive, break breed stereotypes, and bring a smile to everyone she meets. Her big (but physically little) brother Jack loves to show off his smile despite his rough past and diagnosis with spina bifida at birth. Together, Wendy, Jack, and Jill spend their time exploring the Pacific Northwest.
